The mission of the Spiral Dance Womyn’s Center is to provide the safe space and resources women need to empower themselves. Our Membership & the Womyn We Serve The Spiral Dance Womyn's Center serves womyn who were born and raised as womyn in a patriarchal world. We celebrate all womyn and we provide them with a safe, sacred, multicultural space where they can spend time together and learn from each other's experiences. The SDWC values the differences among womyn; differences that include race, religion, ethnicity, age, ability, social class, and sexual orientation. While we recognize the many differences between womyn, we also recognize those experiences we have in common as womyn. Therefore, membership is open to all womyn & girls. Our Goals ♀ Provide a safe, warm, and inviting space for womyn and girls. ♀ Empower womyn to work for both personal and social change. ♀ Model womyn’s collective work and micro-economic practices. Our Strategy In order to accomplish our goals, our strategy is to provide diverse programs in five areas of concentration; Art, Education, Wellness, Spirituality, and Community Building. All of our programs are designed to develop the potential in each womyn. Each class lasts 4 to 6 weeks, and is taught by a womyn who volunteers to share her personal experience & knowledge. Our Accomplishments In 2009 the SDWC had a miraculous year of growth in programs and services, and in the number of people it served. This year the SDWC gained over 100 new members and produced over 400 classes, workshops, and special events. SDWC classes ranged from cooking to Karate and GED to gardening, and along the way our board of directors and our amazing group of volunteers produced an art show, a spring formal, a summer block party, a Halloween costume ball, and a magic holiday auction. In addition to these wonderful programs, the Spiral Dance Womyn’s Center also received & distributed donations that included over 1,000 pieces of clothing, 500 household items, 100 sidewalk gardens, 750 toiletry items, 25 boxes of food & grocery gift cards, and 8 Target gift cards for neighborhood children’s holiday gifts. To date, the SDWC has touched the lives of over 1,300 women, children, and men. These numbers mean that the SDWC has overwhelmingly fulfilled its mission of providing safe space and resources for women to empower themselves. This year the SDWC accomplished a small miracle, in a small place, on a small budget. Click here to view our 2009 Activity Report |
